Don’t Get Left Behind: A Comprehensive Breakdown on Why You Should Upgrade Your Website

Navigating technology in a rapidly changing world can be challenging and overwhelming. Our goal at HERO PM is to help bring you valuable information and tools to help you run your business more efficiently, and stay relevant. As you know having a functional, user-friendly, and up-to-date website is a crucial aspect of running a property management business or any business for that matter. It’s been a long time coming but we can finally say that HTML5 is the official new language of the Internet.

Apple and Google both pushed for HTML5 to become the new standard. We can surmise that both of these companies will be pushing for full adoption of the standard, by all websites. In doing so, we expect to see them rewarding HTML5 sites and penalizing older sites, as they move forward in their development of Google Search, Google Chrome, Safari, and iOS (iPhone/iPad). Although HTML4 is still in use you will soon find that your old HTML4 website is not working properly, not integrating well, or not performing well on search engines and in modern browsers. We cannot stress the importance enough to make the switch to an HTML5 integrated site.

All functionality aside having a dated website sends a message to clients and tenants that you are behind the times. A fresh, modern, professional look will give your business a competitive edge and outwardly show that you are the best company to work with.

HERO PM prides ourselves on providing the best solutions for property managers because we develop and design them specifically for you. FAQ: Why should I submit my ideas and feature suggestions through the Idea Zone? Can’t I just send you an email with my ideas?

HERO PM is a company that has been built around understanding and meeting property managers’ needs. Ideas from our members are the driving force in our development, and your suggestions and ideas are what keep us ahead of the pack. By submitting your ideas and feature suggestions to the Idea Zone (in your Control Panel under Help > Idea Zone), it ensures that your idea is properly logged and acted on by our development team.  It also gives us the opportunity to notify you if your idea is already included in the system, or when it is implemented.

FAQ: How do I add my listing photos? The buttons to Add Another Photo and Save and Upload Photos aren’t displaying.

If you’re uploading a photo to a listing, and do not see the Add Another Photo button or Save and Upload Photos button, then you’ve likely not entered text into the Description field. Enter text into the Description field, and these buttons will then appear.  The description should accurately identify the room or feature displayed in the photo, in an appealing way. E.g. enter “Large Front Yard” rather than “Yard” if it better describes the yard.  This will make your listings more attractive to prospective renters.

From the Edit Photos screen, you can also add a watermark and logo stamp to your listing photos to help increase branding and deter people from using your photos for any misdirected purposes.

FAQ: I’m using Internet Explorer, and some HERO PM functions aren’t working properly. What should I do?

Microsoft introduced an update for all current versions of Internet Explorer in June of 2013. This was done in advance of their release of the upcoming Internet Explorer 11.  Unfortunately, this interim release of Internet Explorer has some compatibility issues with various websites, so we suggest either using another browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox until Microsoft releases a stable version of Internet Explorer 11.

FAQ: I tried to delete a listing, but I’m getting the message that I can’t because there are workorders for the listing.

As a convenience to your office and owners, all workorders are stored for as long as you manage the unit, and forever if desired. To prevent accidentally deleting this history, all workorders, even completed ones, must be deleted to be able to mark a listing for deletion.

You can search for a listing’s workorders in RP Management > Workorders > Workorder Lookup. Search completed workorders by selecting “Completed” in the Status field.

After you delete all of the workorders, including the Completed workorders, you should be able to mark the listing for deletion. If you want to preserve the workorder history on a unit, don’t delete it – just mark it inactive.

FAQ: Why is it important to make sure my domain’s admin contact is up to date, and what do I do if I need to make a change?

When your domain is registered, an administrator is listed in the registration records. This is the only person who is authorized to make a change to your domain. Most change authorization is done by email, so it is extremely important to keep the administrator contact email address up-to-date. An invalid administrator email address can become a big problem if your website host goes out of business, or if you decide to switch to another host.

You can view your domain’s contact information by doing a Domain Lookup at a site such as If you need to update your domain contact information, login to your domain through your Control Panel under PM Website > Domain Admin, or at

Enter your domain name, username, and password to log on to the domain administration interface. If you do not know your domain username and password, please let us know so we can submit a request to have the domain registry email you a reminder. The reminder will be delivered to the administrative contact email address currently listed for your domain.

If the administrative contact email address is not valid, you may need to submit a change request to the registry. If this is the case, please contact for assistance.

Through the domain administration interface, you may update the organization, administration, and billing contacts. It is especially important to keep the administrative contact email address up-to-date. HERO PM/RealEIS should be listed as the Technical contact for your domain and we recommend that you do not change that information. If you have multiple domain names, select the option to apply the update to all domains.

When editing your domain, be careful not to change the Nameservers. Nameservers for all domains that we manage must point to our network. If they are changed, your website will go down.

FAQ: How do I setup automatic recurring payments for my HERO PM fees?

1. Log on to your HERO PM Control Panel and click on Configuration > Pay Charges. Select the billing option “Add recurring monthly auto-payment of $xx.xx”.

Please be sure that the amount shown equals the amount of only one month’s fees. If it does not, you’ll need to first make a one-time payment before setting up your subscription. For example, if your normal package fees are $149 and the billing option says “Add recurring monthly auto-payment of $298.00”, a one-time payment of $149 should be made _before_ setting up the recurring monthly auto-payment so that the extra amount is not added to your monthly subscription. If you have any questions on the amount shown or due, please view your online statement (Configuration > Pay Charges > View/Print Statement), or contact us.

2. Once the amount shown in the option “Add recurring monthly auto-payment of $xx.xx” is equal to one month’s fees, click on “Next Step”.

3. A list of charges will show on your screen. Click on “Pay $xx.xx now”.

4. Your HERO PM Control Panel will direct you to PayPal. In order to set up a recurring monthly auto-payment, you must log into your existing PayPal account, or create a new PayPal account. One time payments can be made via PayPal without logging into an account, however, recurring monthly auto-payments require use of your PayPal account.

5. Review your payment detail, and click on “Agree and Pay”. Your PayPal account will process one payment on the day you set up your recurring monthly auto-payment, and you will be charged additional payments on that same calendar day each month until you end the subscription. For example, if you set up your subscription payment on the 18th of the month, your payment will be automatically processed on the 18th of each month going forward.

6. Click on “Click to Apply Payment to Account”.

7. You will be routed back to your HERO PM Control Panel and will receive a notification that your payment has been submitted.

Special notes:

Future payments will be made with your PayPal account’s default payment method unless you select a preferred payment method. To make a change to your preferred payment method, or to cancel your subscription, go to My Money in your PayPal Profile, then update the “My preapproved payments” section.

Setting up the recurring monthly auto-payment option will charge only your standard monthly payment automatically each month. It does not include one-time or special charges (i.e. Personal Webmaster Time), which still need to be paid separately. Your HERO PM Billing Contact (set up in your Control Panel under Configuration > Member Info) will receive a monthly reminder via email if there are charges other than your standard monthly fees available to be paid.
